It’s time to lace up, step out, and bring some POSITIVITY to our community!
The Food is Medicine/Chronic Disease Program at the Dorchester County Health Department is excited to officially kick off WALKTOBER on Walk Maryland Day and Walk & Roll to School Day—Wednesday, October 7, 2026! 1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
October in Maryland is recognized as WALKTOBER—a month-long celebration dedicated to walking, rolling, pedestrian safety, and active transportation. This October, Maryland is taking steps toward a BIG goal: 1,000,000 collective steps during the Walktober Step Challenge! Together, that’s roughly enough steps to walk across Maryland and back.
And we want YOU, your organization, your team, and your community to be part of it!
MULTIPLE MEET-UP LOCATIONS — ONE COMMUNITY WALK!
To make it easy for everyone to participate, we’ll have several meet-up locations throughout downtown Cambridge, giving participants multiple convenient places to park and join the walk:
* 1st Meet-Up Location: City Parking Lot — 530 Race Street
* 2nd Meet-Up Location: Cannery Way — 432 Race Street
* 3rd Meet-Up Location: 112 Commerce Street — right off High Street, down the street from Circuit Court and adjacent to the County Building
Participants can park at the location that works best for them and join us for the walk. Along the walk, everyone will meet at the lot at Long Wharf for a community group photo so we can capture this special day and celebrate everyone who came out to support Walk Maryland Day!
After the photo, we’ll continue our walk down High Street and through downtown Cambridge, making our way to the Dorchester County Health Department at 627 Race Street. From there, participants will walk back to their original meet-up location.
We’re excited to see our community come together, get moving, spread positivity, and show that every step counts!
Governor Wes Moore supports a healthier Maryland and showed his support by issuing a Proclamation for Walktober 2026!
LET’S MAKE IT A CHALLENGE!
*We’re challenging local agencies, organizations, businesses, schools, gyms, health departments, and community groups to show up and show out!
*Which organization can bring the MOST participants?
*Gather your coworkers, employees, members, students, friends, families, and community partners and represent your organization on Walk Maryland Day!
We will provide a registration form for each workplace or organization to register its team and help track participation.
This isn’t just about counting steps—it’s about bringing people together, spreading positivity, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and creating a stronger, healthier, more active community.
Together, we can take steps toward better health, stronger connections, and a healthier Dorchester County.
HELP US SPREAD THE WORD!
We have pre-made press releases available to make it easy for you to promote Walktober and Walk Maryland Day with your coworkers, employees, members, students, and community.
We look forward to walking, rolling, connecting, and celebrating with you!
