  • POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Member Support Specialist provides support for the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce and its members.  This role includes, but is not limited to general office support, marketing, and event management. The individual in the role will have a great deal of independence in the execution of required responsibilities and will be exposed to a wide variety of industries and business leaders in the region.

    REPORTS TO:  President/CEO

    SCHEDULE: In-person, 20-30 hours per week, preferably Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 8am-5pm with flexibility.  Occasional evening/weekend work for Chamber events required. 

    SALARY RANGE: $18-$24 per hour.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Basic office support tasks: greeting guests entering the building, answering phones, electronic filing, copying, printing, preparing mailings, conference room set up, and receiving and relaying messages to office staff.
    • Input and update member information in Chamber membership management system.
    • Manage and update websites, social media accounts, blogs, and online databases as assigned.
    • Coordinate logistical support for Chamber and member meetings of various types.
    • Attend various meetings, produce agendas and meeting minutes, as assigned.
    • Attend Chamber functions (onsite and offsite) to provide support as needed, which may occasionally involve evenings and weekends.  
    • Serve as primary editor for weekly Chamber Newsletter, online news items, and press releases.
    • Entering deposits in Quick Books.
    • Provide support for the maintenance of financial systems, profit & loss statements, balance sheets, bill payment, budgets, bank accounts, etc.
    • Research websites for updates on Maryland Legislative Bills being tracked.
    • Research press outlets for any information on topics being tracked by the Chamber.
    • Proofread all documentation associated with the Chamber.
    • Option to attend sessions in Annapolis.
    • Assist the President/CEO with correspondence with Legislators.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Basic understanding of general office automation equipment: phone systems, copiers, scanning, faxing.

     

    REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience in member relations, customer service, sales, or non-profit administration preferred, and/or strong technical and research skills using social media tools (Facebook for business).
    • Valid driver's license.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams Required.
    • Proficiency in Adobe Tools, Constant Contact, CRM software, and web development tools and QuickBooks accounting software a plus.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Daily requirements may include prolonged sitting and standing, walking frequently, occasional lifting of light objects (up to 25 pounds), good hand dexterity for using computers, clear vision for reading documents and interacting with members, and the ability to adjust focus between close and distant vision while communicating with members in person or virtually; depending on the specific role, some situations may require occasional bending, reaching, or climbing stairs. The Chamber office is a two-story building and there is no elevator so the ability to use a staircase is required.
