Dorchester County Councilmen Rob Kramer and Mike Detmer join Salisbury Mayor Randy Taylor and Congressman Andy Harris in supporting Dorchester Watermen.
CAMBRIDGE, MD- On Saturday, January 10th hundreds of people braved the cold, wind and rain to attend the 11th Annual Portside Oyster Ball supporting Dorchester County Watermen. A record $10,400 was raised at the event that featured Watermen shucking oysters and local legends, Bird Dog and the Road Kings, as the evening’s entertainment.

Portside owner, Marcia Christopher, presents a Check for $10,400 to Dorchester Seafood Heritage Association President Bobby Whaples and watermen Eddie Hayden.
The establishment of the Tracie Whiteley Memorial Scholarship Fund was also announced at the event. Tracie was a long-time manager at Portside and was always a big part of the Oyster Ball. Marcia Christopher, owner of Portside, remembers her fondly. "Tracie was always a supporter of our Watermen, and a part of everything we do at Portside. This Scholarship is a great tribute to her legacy." "She kept us all in line." Said Keith Graffius, Co-Chair of the event. "She would be very proud that we are continuing her legacy and had another great Oyster Ball!"
Most of the money was raised through a "Winner Take All Raffle" which included overnight stays at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay in Cambridge and Fagers Island Hotels in Ocean City as well as other prizes. This year (and every year) Portside's own Lauren Edwards had the honor of selling the most tickets. "It’s rewarding knowing what we are doing directly benefits our Watermen and now we get to honor Tracie's legacy as well. I love doing it, and I can hardly wait until next year!"
Portside Seafood Restaurant is located at 201 Trenton St. Cambridge, Maryland and is open daily serving traditional Eastern Shore cuisine.
