• Cambridge Women's Club to host oceanographer Dr. Mike Sieracki



    On Friday, March 1, 2024 CWC hosts Dr. Mike Sieracki, oceanographer and Director of Maryland Center for environmental sciences Horn Point Laboratory. 

    Dr. Sieracki’s area of expertise is microbial plankton ecology, including the phytoplankton, spring bloom and harmful algal blooms.  Dr. Sieracki invented automated microscope systems for analyzing micro plankton populations in the oceans and innovated single cell genomic methods for characterizing individual marine microbes. He has participated in 25 research cruises with over 180 days at sea, including serving on the coordinator team of the Tara Oceans expedition to map the biodiversity of plankton in the worlds oceans.  He has taught courses around the world and has over 60 published scientific papers.  Dr. Sieracki holds a PhD in biological oceanography a Master’s in microbial biology from University of Rhode Island as well as a  B.A. in biological sciences from the university of Delaware.
