The Friends of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge recently announced the winners of the 2026 Refuge Photo Contest, which is a fundraiser for Blackwater NWR. CAMBRIDGE, MD – In an effort to protect migrating birds, the Friends of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge has completed the first phase of a project to prevent window collisions by applying specialized bird-deterrent film to windows at the refuge Visitor Center. This project aims to mitigate window-strike mortality during peak migration seasons. The Friends of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) near Cambridge, Maryland, is hosting a digital photo contest from May 1 to May 29, 2026, to showcase Blackwater NWR and raise funds for Refuge projects.
