Perdue Foundation supports Graduate Medical Education at TidalHealth

SALISBURY – On Monday, Dec. 11, the TidalHealth Foundation welcomed representatives of the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation and Jim Perdue, Chairman of Perdue Farms, to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Md. for a check presentation and donation in support of the health system’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) program.
 
The generous $300,000 contribution from the Perdue Foundation will create classroom space and technology in the TidalHealth Center for Medical Training and Simulation where resident physicians studying in TidalHealth’s GME program, as well as other clinicians and providers, train in real-world conditions and scenarios prior to the actual delivery of patient care. A ribbon cutting will be planned for later in 2024.
 
The Perdue Foundation’s gift is part of its “Delivering Hope To Our Neighbors®” outreach to improve quality of life and build strong communities.
 
By 2034, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) anticipates doctor shortages of between 38,000 and 124,000 as an aging physician population nears retirement. This is why TidalHealth has launched its GME program to include residency and fellowship training programs. The TidalHealth Foundation’s “Spark” campaign focuses on raising the funds necessary to establish and support GME at TidalHealth. This $5 million campaign is based on a bold and collaborative two-prong strategy: TidalHealth will provide a space for residents to learn and treat patients and at the same time create a pipeline of physicians who want to train here, live here, and love this community just as we do.
