Easton, MD March 26 — The Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence (MSCFV) invites members of the press, local officials, and the broader community to attend a 9:00 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, March 28, at the Easton YMCA, 202 Peachblossom Road, to officially launch the inaugural Miles That Matter event.
More than just a fitness event, Miles That Matter represents a powerful show of unity across the Eastern Shore bringing together the business, nonprofit, residential, and philanthropic communities in support of survivors of domestic violence.
This collaboration includes the Talbot Chamber of Commerce, representing the region’s business and nonprofit community; the AARP Ethels of the Chesapeake Region, engaging residents through active living and connection; MSCFV’s donors, leadership, and staff; and the YMCA, whose facility provides a central gathering space to launch the event. In addition, Eastern Shore Ship Print Connect is generously sponsoring the printing of all participant bibs, ensuring every walker, runner, and participant can visibly show their support.
Together, these partners demonstrate what is possible when a community comes together with a shared purpose: to move the needle for survivors and families across the Mid-Shore.
Inspired by the AARP Ethels, Miles That Matter offers a flexible, community-wide experience across the Eastern Shore. Participants can walk, run, bike, swim, or use a treadmill—anywhere, at any pace—making it accessible for all ages and abilities.
The ribbon cutting, held in partnership with the Talbot Chamber of Commerce and the AARP Ethels, will kick off a day dedicated to raising awareness and funds for survivors in Caroline, Dorchester, Talbot, Queen Anne’s, and Kent counties. Immediately following the ceremony, MSCFV staff and leadership will “go any distance” alongside participants outdoors, while YMCA members and guests may also take advantage of indoor fitness opportunities.
Participants are encouraged to join the kickoff event for a leisurely walk or an energizing morning run, connecting with others who are committed to making a difference. Additional gym
access will be available at Snap Fitness locations in Crofton and Annapolis for those who prefer to participate indoors.
With a $10 minimum donation, every mile represents walking in the shoes of a survivor—honoring strength, resilience, and the journey toward safety and healing.
“Miles That Matter is more than a day of movement, it’s a visible demonstration of what happens when a community comes together with purpose,” said Jeanne Yeager, Executive Director of MSCFV. “From our business leaders to our residents, partners, and supporters, this event reflects the strength of collective action. Every step helps ensure survivors know they are not alone.”
The AARP Ethels, known for promoting healthy aging, positivity, and community engagement through fun fitness activities, helped inspire this unique and inclusive collaboration.
