    University of Maryland Shore Medical Group (UM SMG) – Neurology and Sleep Medicine recently welcomed Maria Deza, DNP, APRN, AGACNP-BC. UM SMG is an affiliate medical practice of University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH), a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System.

    Deza is an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with more than a decade of diverse clinical experience across neurosurgery, palliative care, case management and emergency medicine. She brings a strong background in comprehensive patient assessment, interdisciplinary collaboration and care coordination, with a focus on improving outcomes for patients with complex neurological conditions.

    Most recently, Deza served as a nurse practitioner in neurosurgery and palliative care with Tidal Health, where she provided both inpatient and outpatient care, conducted detailed neurological assessments and worked closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans. Her experience includes managing complex conditions, guiding patients and families through treatment and recovery, and advocating for patient-centered care.

    Deza is board certified and earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice and Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University, along with a post-master’s certificate as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

    In addition to her clinical work, Deza has experience with conducting home assessments for Medicare, and has contributed to research and quality improvement initiatives, including work focused on enhancing patient education and discharge outcomes. She is also bilingual in English and Tagalog, supporting culturally responsive care for a diverse patient population.
