• $380,000 in Funding Empowers RMM Mission

The Richardson Maritime Museum Board of Directors is pleased to share their recent press release with additional details about the museum's significant new funding through the Maryland Legislative Bond Initiative. This critical capital budget allocation was made possible by the unwavering advocacy and support of the Dorchester County Legislative Delegation.

The funding is designated specifically for the purchase of the museum campus located at 103 Hayward Street in Cambridge. Museum leadership said the investment marks a significant milestone in the organization’s efforts to secure permanent ownership of the property and advance its long-term vision for maritime preservation, education and community engagement.

“This exciting investment represents a major step forward in preserving and expanding maritime heritage opportunities in Cambridge and throughout Dorchester County,” the RMM Board of Directors said in a joint statement.

The RMM Board noted that the funding would not have been possible without the advocacy and leadership of Delegate Tom Hutchinson and Senator Johnny Mautz, who championed the initiative in Annapolis and recognized the extensive work of RMM volunteers in rebuilding and reopening the museum for the community.

“The Richardson Maritime Museum Board of Directors is deeply grateful for their extraordinary support and belief in our mission,” said Debbie Usab, Chair of the RMM Board of Directors. “Their leadership and commitment to preserving Maryland’s maritime heritage have helped make this significant investment possible.

“Over the past three years, our volunteers have worked tirelessly to rebuild and reopen the museum for our community. The encouragement and advocacy from our state representatives have meant more to us than words can express. This funding represents not only support for a property purchase, but confidence in the future of maritime education, preservation and community engagement in Cambridge and Dorchester County.”

“As a resident of Cambridge and now a neighbor of the Richardson Maritime Museum, I have been so pleased to witness the transformation that is occurring at the property. I am excited about the future vision for the museum and was eager to help secure this important funding.”
    - Del. Tom Hutchinson

“It was a pleasure to help build a foundation for the museum’s future. I look forward to seeing this vibrant waterfront property transition into a destination for visitors to come learn about Dorchester County’s strong maritime history.”
    - Sen. Johnny Mautz

Over the past year and a half, generous supporters of the Richardson Maritime Museum have helped fund numerous improvement projects, including a new roof, plumbing upgrades, public events, volunteer training, educational programming, curation of the museum’s library and artifact collections, ship model preservation, and historic vessel renovations.

The museum plans to leverage the newly awarded state funding to secure additional support needed to complete the property acquisition and continue expanding programming and preservation efforts for future generations. In addition to Senator Mautz and Delegate Hutchinson, the Dorchester County Delegation includes Delegate Chris Adams and Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes, both of whom sponsored the Legislative Bond Initiative supporting the museum's future vision.
