Old Folks Got Talent is coming to Cambridge and you’re invited. The Wednesday Morning Artists and the Dorchester Center for the Arts have teamed up to present the first annual Old Folks Got Talent show, a fundraiser to support arts in the area.
Individuals who are 60 and older with an act that they’d like to show off, are invited to audition at the arts center, 321 High Street in Cambridge, on Saturday, June 15 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Sign up atOldFolksGotTalent@gmail.com or call 410-463-0148. Auditions will be only 1 ½ minutes for each performer.
Terry White, Program Coordinator, says “I have met many retired people who have secret desires to get on stage and perform. Well, here is your opportunity to take that item off your bucket list. The more creative the act, the better!
“I’m a long-time performer at the monthly Coffeehouse open mic events at DCA. We love the diversification of it all, so polish up your act, create your costume, and go for it! After all, this is show business!”
“We are open to all kinds of talent. Don’t be shy. Come and tell silly jokes, tap dance, bring your trained orangutang, show us how you can draw a horse that is wearing a Hawaiian skirt, or pull an elephant out of a hat,” said Nancy Snyder, spokesperson for the Wednesday Morning Artists. “We are open to individuals or groups. We’d like to see choral groups, hip hop dance and song, cat acrobatics, finger poppin’, plate spinning, or anything else that you might have in your bag of tricks. Come and surprise us. I can assure you that you don’t have to be Sammy Davis Junior, Celine Dion, or David Copperfield.”
The Old Folks Got Talent Show takes place a week later, on Saturday, June 22, from 3 to 5:30 p.m., It will be at the Dorchester Center for the Arts’ Performance Hall. $10 at the door. Bring your family, friends and neighbors to cheer on your favorites. Partly based on audience reaction, our celebrity judges will select 3 winners to receive prizes.
“As an art group, we appreciate creative people.” said Robert Gladney, DCA instructor and WMA member. “I am anxious to see this show—should be very entertaining and lots of fun. It’s $10 at the door. You won’t find a better bargain. Put it on your schedule now.”
