Business After Hours/Ribbon Cutting: Handsell

You're Invited! "History Lives at Handsell" is celebrating the completion of their new "Three Cultures Center" and is inviting you join the occasion with a Business After Hours and Ribbon Cutting.

The “old brick house” at Chicone, known as Handsell, located on Indiantown Road north of Vienna, Dorchester County, Maryland, was purchased by the Nanticoke Historic Preservation Alliance with a Preservation Easement from the Maryland Historic Trust. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, the site is used to interpret the Native People’s contact period with the English, the enslaved and later African American story and the life of all those who lived at Handsell. The new Three Cultures Center is barn-like, completely ADA accessible building will contain a multi-purpose space for programming and events, with public bathroom facilities, office and much-needed storage. It will also contain the the newly acquired circa 1730 interior paneling from "My Lady Sewall’s Manor" house in Secretary. This architectural treasure had been in possession of the Brooklyn Museum for over a century when the NHPA saved it from the auction block and returned it to Dorchester County.
