• TidalHealth implements masking effective immediately

SALISBURY, MD — Delmarva is experiencing a significant and rapid increase in Influenza A (Flu A) cases and other respiratory illnesses across the region with the number of confirmed cases reported through TidalHealth tripling in just two weeks in December.

In response, TidalHealth is implementing required, temporary protective masking effective immediately at all locations, including TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, TidalHealth Nanticoke and Atlantic General Hospital.

    Key points

    • All team members must wear a mask in patient-facing areas
    • All patients and visitors will be asked to wear a mask upon entry (masks are available at check-in)
    • No additional screening is required at this time

“Our priority is the safety of our patients, team members, and community,” said Trudy Hall, MD, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at TidalHealth. “The sharp rise we are seeing in Flu A cases in such a short period of time is concerning and requires proactive steps to reduce the spread of illness in our healthcare settings.”

TidalHealth also strongly encourages community members to get their annual flu shot if they have not already done so. Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to reduce the severity of illness, prevent complications and protect vulnerable populations, including older adults, young children, and those with chronic health conditions.

“We know flu vaccination doesn’t just protect individuals, it helps protect families,
coworkers, and our healthcare system as a whole,” said Angie Brittingham, DNP, MS, RN, CEN, CPEN, NEA-BC, CPHQ, Chief Nurse Executive and Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services at TidalHealth. “It’s not too late to get vaccinated.”

Visitors are reminded to stay home if they are sick. Everyone is encouraged to practice good hand hygiene and cover coughs and sneezes.
