SALISBURY — TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is pleased to announce that RJ Wilkinson, BSRC, RRT, is its Tree of Life Award recipient for October 2023. This award honors respiratory therapists who provide outstanding, excellent care to patients, make a special connection and are engaged with the care team to ensure the best outcomes for their patients.
The award was presented to RJ on Oct. 26 during Respiratory Care Week by Lauren Gladwell, Manager of Respiratory Care at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, who had this to say in nominating and recognizing RJ:
"I want to recognize RJ with the Tree of Life Award. Last week, in the Special Care Nursery, we had a newborn who was quite sick with respiratory issues. RJ spent the better part of two shifts in the Special Care Nursery performing not only his job, but other tasks when he was able.
RJ ensured the patient was cared for along with the nurses, helped move the patient, assisted with x-ray, etc. At this point, the rest of the unit was busy as well (manager in staffing and high acuity patients). I observed RJ going above and beyond on multiple occasions to help where he could — wiping down a warmer bed, answering the phone — all in addition to providing excellent care to his patient. What’s more, RJ performed all of this with a smile on his face.
Many of our wonderful respiratory therapists do these things on a weekly basis, but RJ was assigned to Special Care Nursery for two days in a row, where this infant was the most critical, and he went above and beyond. Thank you, RJ!"
