• Dr. Yashvir Sangwan named Medical Director of Critical Care

SALISBURY – Yashvir Sangwan, MD, was recently named the Medical Director of Critical Care for TidalHealth. Dr. Sangwan is board-certified in pulmonary/critical care medicine and also in interventional pulmonology.

He has also been TidalHealth’s Director of Interventional Pulmonology since 2017. His appointment as Medical Director of Critical Care became effective in January, and puts the Salisbury based health system on a trajectory for the launch of a Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship program by 2026.

“Critical Care at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional serve a 7+ county region with regular transfers from other hospitals when presented with higher acuity patients and subspecialty needs available typically at larger academic centers,” said Steve Leonard, Ph.D., MBA, FACHE, President/CEO of TidalHealth. “I look forward to supporting Dr. Sangwan in our ongoing evolution of these important services and the establishment of a leading-edge Critical Care and Pulmonology Fellowship.”

Dr. Sangwan also serves at TidalHealth’s Medical Director of its Procedural Training and Simulation Center. It’s an exact and state-of-the art medical simulation and clinical training center that he designed in 2022. Its purpose is to provide physician residents at TidalHealth the real-world knowledge required to build both their skill sets and confidence prior to treating patients on an actual critical care unit.

Away from the clinical realm, Dr. Sangwan also realizes and reinforces the importance of work-life balance for resident physicians in TidalHealth’s Graduate Medical Education curriculum. He’s designed a program called The Experimental Center for Learning (ExCel) dedicated to helping trainees reach their personal goals beyond the world of medicine.

The mission is to connect TidalHealth providers who possess a wide array of skills, whether it is painting, pottery, target shooting, flying a plane, running marathons, or any other expertise, with peers who aspire to acquire these skills. In addition to mentorship benefits, there is a variety of group adventures and activities designed to help residents become better and well-rounded versions of themselves.
