The Cambridge Yacht Club was founded in 1911 and moved to its current home at Winterbottom’s Wharf at the foot of Mill Street in 1937, thanks to a gift from Francis du Pont. The clubhouse was designed by Victorine du Pont Homsey, believed to be one of the first women in the nation to design such a facility. Its award-winning modernist style was inspired by the bridge of the du Pont family yacht, Alicia.
The history of racing excellence on the Choptank continues to this day. This year the Club is excited to announce that Wednesday Night Racing (Keelboats) will now be under the full stewardship of CYC. The club welcomes sailors of all skill levels.
To celebrate, join the Chamber on July 1 for a Business After Hours with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on the Choptank River while the sailboats are out. Come discover some unique Cambridge history while learning about the CYC’s current activities, including the Admiral Byrd Regatta, annual Log Canoe races, Thursday Night Dinghy Sailing, and the popular Junior Sail Program.
