Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is seeking public review and comment on a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Backgarden Creek wetland restoration project. The proposed project would restore approximately 100 acres of tidal marsh through sediment placement in accordance with the refuge’s Comprehensive Conservation Plan. In partnership with the Friends of Blackwater and the Harriet Tubman State Park, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge will hold their annual Youth Fishing Fun Day on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. This family-friendly event will be held at the refuge pond behind the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center, located off Route 335.
