• Dorchester Celebrates 350th Anniversary

More than 200 people gathered on the Dorchester Courthouse lawn on Sept. 22 to celebrate the County's 350th Anniversary. The event included a heritage village; student essay and art awards; proclamations from elected officials, including Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford; distribution of a commemorative medallion; and the opening of a 50-year-old-time capsule.

The time capsule contained more than 100 letters and packages, addressed to elected officials, clubs and individuals. The Dorchester County Tourism Office is in the process of documenting the contents and contacting addressees. The items are on display at the Visitor Center at Sailwinds Park, open 8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m., seven days a week. Anyone who believes that he or she may have had an item in the time capsule may contact the Visitor Center at 410-228-1000.
