He will be relating the history and experiences of James Island through the stories and memories handed down through Lee's great-grandfather. Lee will also discuss the history of the Sika deer population on the island and the vanishing of the land.\n\nLee Newcomb was raised on a farm outside of Trappe. He grew up aware that James Island had been linked to his family since the mid-1800s.\n\nHe went to Easton High School and graduated from the Univ. of Md. with a degree in Chemical Engineering. His work took him and his family to Baltimore\, Tampa\, and York\, Pa. He then moved back to the shore to spend 35 years at Cambridge Wire Cloth (Cambridge\, Inc.).\n\nHe was lucky that many relatives who lived on James Island in their youth left photos\, maps\, and other memorabilia that he has been able to collate and keep safe.\n\nThis past October his son\, grandson\, and he walked on what remains of James Island.\n\nThe lecture is free and open to the public. The South Dorchester Folk Museum\, in cooperation with the Dorchester County Historical Society\, presents FREE lectures most months about local Dorchester County history.
