Bring your yoga mat out to the Choptank River Lighthouse on the Cambridge waterfront on Friday, Oct. 25. Heather Rupp of the award-winning Ebb Tide Wellness Studio will lead a 45-minute outdoors vinyasa yoga session on the waterfront in Cambridge. Afterward, stroll out to the Choptank River Lighthouse and enjoy sunset from the deck over wine & cheese.
Heather plans to take a mindful approach to the session, incorporating bits of focused meditation centered around the theme of water’s beauty and importance. The session is free, but advance reservations are required. There is a cap of 25 participants.
The event is part of a broader series of talks, screenings, tours, and more in Cambridge associated with a traveling Smithsonian exhibit, Water/Ways (https://visitdorchester.org/waterways/). Presented by the nonprofit Cambridge Lighthouse Foundation and Ebb Tide Wellness Studio, the session is supported by the Heart of the Chesapeake Country Heritage Area and the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority.
Heather began her vinyasa practice 20 years ago. When an illness left her unable to practice in the intensely physical manner she was used to, Heather deepened her practice (and herself) by embracing meditation in order to focus less on the physical benefits of yoga and more on its emotional and spiritual aspects. That has remained her approach even after a return to full health.
With certifications as an instructor in both yoga and mindfulness, Heather designs sessions in which vinyasa exercises are paired with mindfulness touchpoints and themed intention in support of a practice that aims to move heart, body, and mind and create openings for insight and healing.
This session, which is open to all yoga skill levels, will be held outdoors starting at 5pm. Please bring your mat and arrive 10-15 minutes early to get settled. Afterward, we will walk out to the Choptank River Lighthouse for wine, cheese, and socializing around the sunset, which is scheduled for 6:13pm.
