DESCRIPTION:On November 19\, 1863. President Abraham Lincoln made "a few appropriate remarks" at the dedication of the Soldiers National Cemetery at Gettysburg\, Pennsylvania. These "remarks" became known as the Gettysburg Address and is now considered one of the most important speeches in American History.  \n\n\n\n An anniversary reading of the Gettysburg Address will be given at noon on the November 19\, 2025\, on the steps of the historic Meredith House on the grounds of the Dorchester County Historical Society at 1003 Greenway Drive in Cambridge. Reading it will be the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce Town Crier accompanied by other reenactors.\n\n\n\n The Meredith House contains displays about two Dorchester County residents who played important roles in preserving the Union: Anne Ella Carroll\, an unofficial member of Lincoln's Cabinet\, and Thomas Holiday Hicks\, Governor of Maryland\, who kept Maryland\, a slave state at the time\, in the Union. The Meredith House will be open for tours following the Reading. \n\n\n\n In case of inclement weather\, the event will be moved indoors.
