Enroll in the Chamber of Commerce Energy Purchasing Co-Op Programs:

In order to combat the high prices of electricity the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with CQI Associates developed an energy purchasing cooperative program to assist Chamber members and their employees / members purchase electricity in a deregulated market. The contracts provide long-term savings and budget stability.

Commercial Co-Op participants have saved 12% to 18% per year in their electric usage costs.

Electric market prices are expected to increase 11% over the next twelve months. Chamber Co-op members are not impacted by the increases in supply costs during the terms of their contracts.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?

Chamber members with commercial/non-residential utility accounts are eligible to participate in the Commercial Energy Co-Op
Chamber members and their employees / members with residential utility accounts are eligible to participate in the Residential Energy Co-Op

HOW DOES THE CO-OP WORK?

Deregulation allows Maryland customers to either stay with Delmarva Power as their electricity supplier or to purchase electricity on a contract basis from a licensed supplier. Contract prices are established through a negotiated or competitive selection process with prices set for a specified term.

The cooperative pools together the buying power of commercial customers to procure energy at the best available competitive market price. The program also saves individual Chamber members the time and expense of choosing a supplier on their own. Members contract directly with the licensed supplier and receive the financial benefit of reduced electricity costs
.

Commercial customers can link multiple meters into one agreement on adjacent properties.

Business owners, this is a great benefit for your employees. For our not for profit members you too might benefit by providing the service to your members.  We encourage you to pass this information along to them as a benefit from you for your Chamber membership.

Member Benefits -- Electric Buying Cooperative

In order to combat the high prices of electric the Chamber has partnered with CQI to allow Chamber members and their employees / members to purchase electric at a reduced rate and to lock in a rate for the next three years (commercial).

The cooperative will have two components – Residential and Commercial.  The application period for this first class will end December 2, 2009.  There will be another enrollment period next spring for those unable to get into the first class.  We plan to hold two enrollments per year.

CQI will host a series of webinars explaining the process.  To find out more on the webinars or to register for a webinare click on the link> http://www.dorchesterchamber.org/cooperativewebinars.html

Those interested in the residential cooperative should click on this Residential link

Commercial customers can click here to get a pdf of the Commercial application. Questions regarding Commercial accounts can be directed towards the Chamber office (410) 228 3575 or contacting CQI directly.

The objective of the program is to provide Residential customers a unique program to purchase either Residential Electricity Supply or Residential Natural Gas Supply services. Residential customers who have selected licensed suppliers have reduced their cost by 6 to 10 percent on an annual basis.

Purchasing cooperatives stimulate competition for electricity or natural gas supply services in the residential marketplace.  Purchasing Cooperatives leverage the increased purchasing power of the group over that of the individual by obtaining competitive pricing, eliminate the need for the individual to go through the process alone, share in the costs, technical support, and expertise. Employees of Chamber member organizations can join the Residential Energy Purchasing Cooperative to reduce the cost of the electricity or natural gas provided to their homes.

  • Application fee $37.50 per Electricity account
  • Application fee $30.00 per Natural Gas account

Register Here to start the application process
If you have any difficulties with the application process, contact us via email at:
Residential@cqiassociates.com or call the Customer Service Line 410-740-0667.

Participation in the Cooperative REQUIRES continuous membership in the Chamber of Commerce during the full term of the Agreement. If your membership is not current with the Chamber, you must bring your account current to participate in this proposed contract extension. Submission of the application for participation in the cooperative does not include fees for membership in the chamber. If your membership is not current the application for cooperative participation will not be processed.

The application fee pays for the administrative costs of the Residential Energy Purchasing cooperative and selecting a licensed energy supplier who is offering to sell the electricity or natural gas at a lower price than the utility Standard Offer Service Rate offered by the local utility company. Application fees are not refundable
